ALBANY,GA. – The Clean Cities Coalition awarded those who are “Innovators in Alternative Fuel” Wednesday at a special awards ceremony. Bill Boone was one of those awarded for bringing the Southeast Bioenergy Conference to Tifton. Also awarded was David Perry of the Perry Bros. Oil Company in Americus, who were the first distributors of biofuel in south Georgia, and Desmond Steward of Wind Gap Farms, who specializes in converting waste brewery yeasts to ethanol. Most ethanol today is made from corn; however, it is much cheaper for Georgia to make cellulosic ethanol, taking into account the fact that Georgia has 24 million acres in forestland. And ethanol is getting to a good start according to the Director of Alternative Fuels, Jill Stuckey, folks in Atlanta last quarter used 1% ethanol.
